Ashes In The Water

©By Elva Jones-Hahn (for Melissa Crabtree)

I am a river runner
On a journey of healing streams
The water calms my soul
Drowning out the screams

Mother I still hear you
But you're too far to reach now
I placed my hand on your heart and sang
Till the beating slowed down

Ashes in the water
Let me go and set me free
Where I can flow from the rivers to the sea
Ashes in the water
Let the cool winds carry me
Off to distant places by the sea

Father was a salesman
Brother a burdened child
Through all of mothers craziness
The water made her smile

I am a naked warrior
My river an eternity
The water calms my soul
Back to me

Ashes in the water
Let me go and set me free
Where I can flow from the rivers to the sea
Ashes in the water
Let the cool winds carry me
Off to distant places by the sea
